Why is this important?
New Zealand has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with melanoma being the most serious type. But why is skin cancer so prevalent here? A combination of factors contributes to this alarming statistic:

- **High UV Exposure:** Due to New Zealand’s location, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation is exceptionally strong. Our country experiences higher UV levels than many other parts of the world, even on cloudy days.
- **Outdoor Lifestyle:** Kiwis love spending time outside, whether it’s at the beach, on a hike or enjoying sports. This increased sun exposure raises the risk of skin damage.
- **Fair Skin Type:** Many New Zealanders have fair skin, which is more susceptible to UV damage, sunburn and ultimately, skin cancer.
- **Thinning Ozone Layer:** The ozone layer over New Zealand is thinner, meaning less natural protection from harmful UV rays.

Because of these factors, early detection is crucial. Regular skin checks can save lives by identifying suspicious moles or spots before they become dangerous. A professional skin check can help catch skin cancer early when it is most treatable.

Don’t wait—protect your skin and your health by booking a FREE\* skin cancer spot check today!

\*A free spot check is an examination of 1 mole/lesion that is concerning you that you’ve identified prior to your appointment and can point out to the clinician.
